Hey,

An update at last and a rather wordy monster post but it's silly season as regards the sheer quantity of fashion issues around and trying to keep track of the fur material featured ..but here's my latest attempt. I will scan some more of this stuff soon (you can always email me a request or two) but for now here's the log of what's hot and what's not and one great scan.

W (US) Oct 06

A nice 8 page fur editorial is included here and who wouldn’t like to see Basso, Rucci & Kors furs - it’s just they’d be much nicer pics if the coats were WORN by models.. Nevertheless, nice close ups and large pics.

This issue features the best fur ad so far this season, Giuliana Teso and the and fox tails coat - wonderful, a stand out from her collection!! A must - see below, it's not my greatest scan, W is just so damn big and the paper quality quite poor but you get the idea...

In addition, an o.k Zandra Rhodes, a very nice three page Fendi Furs ad and Cavalli underwear.For the GT ad alone this is high scorer on ads for me (a 9), but a little disappointing in most other areas. A solid 5/10 overall.

HOT, HOT, HOT, pure and simple..

It’s hard to imagine a better fur feature than the 12 page, Fur Play, editorial. The furs are big and plentiful - sable, fox, lynx et al, and the model mostly nude underneath all of them. Without doubt the runaway leader this season as a *must have* issue. French Vogue does it again.. Fur is also featured across other editorial pieces.

Ads are good quality too of course some repeats from earlier French Vogue issues; Mazzi, Fischelis, Cavalli Shoes and a very, very nice Spring Freres furrier ad.

This issue begins and ends with the Neiman Marcus Fur Salon, 12 page glossy ad insert which is very, very nice. It features the Teso coat again (ad of the year so far see above) and the Rucci Chinchilla W decided would look better without anyone wearing it. NM don’t make that mistake for sure - also Sorbara and Kors coats are featured. For this alone I give it 8.5/10, buy it ? Yes. Anything else of interest, not really - even the Dennis Basso ad does not feature a fur (boo..) and you can get the Fendi ads somewhere else.

Vogue (Italian) Oct 06

No all fur feature as yet this season but another good issue with LOTS of fur ads (15 +) and much fur in the numerous editorials. The big fashion houses consistently save their furriest ads for IT vogue and this issue is a good example from blumarine, prada et al and of course tiviloi, niojle, mazzi furs - these ads are all specific to the Italian issue. Full of big name models as usual (inc a couple of nice Naomi Campbell in fur pics). Better than W by some way, but perhaps for the serious collector only. 7/10

Vogue (German) Oct 06

A promotional editorial on Haute Furrier is a nice 6 page feature that covers mink, sable and a little fox. Aside from that, just two great ads to keep you satisfied - Bonnie & J. Richmond (who also pops up in French & IT editions). Solid. 5/10

I love the cover which features Prada’s silver fox sleeve coat because the model and pose say everything about ‘Fashion Power’ though the issue does not quite deliver the promise, at least in terms of fur content. Some really nice ads - Tivioli Sable! - and some solid stuff in the editorials too…5.5/10

Vogue (French) Sep 06

The coat on the cover of Vogue IT, features in the Prada ad from this issue plus killer two page Cavalli, a fabulous Loewe ad, La Perla, killer two page Angelo Marani. The ‘ballerina’ editorial features lots of fur on famous models, as does the ‘amazone’ feature - just beautiful. Can anyone top French Vogue - I doubt it. Buy it? Without question. 8.5/10

Harpers Bazaar (US) Sep 06

You can always rely on Harpers to come up with a good fur feature and they have excelled this year. A 9 page, Liya Kebade feature of the very highest quality. Second only to the Oct French Vogue spread mentioned above. Have no fear it’s already on the web here… if you can’t buy this issue anymore. 7.5/10

Vogue (US) Sep 06

Ho, Hum. A truly monster issue that well, compared to the European offerings, just doesn’t cut it. An ok, largely fur trim orientated editorial is featured and a smattering of interesting ads but sadly little else. 4/10

W (US) Sep 06

OK, the Ricci is cover is wonderful and is even better ‘in the flesh’ so you will want it just for that. Otherwise, nada.

Cindy Crawford in Sable

This is a Saks Ad from U.S. Vogue, Sept 1987, which also featured Cindy on the cover. The other model is Elle Macphearson....

Changed image hosts, as many of the recent posts seem to be not displaying correctly, hope that solves it...

Great cover shot of Kate, and one superb shot inside too. She is also pictured in a Ferre Silver Fox trimmed jacket - but not at the best angle (at least to see the fur). Overall, if you like Kate then you might give this 6/10, but in terms of fur content it's pretty low.

July and August Fashion Issues Update

Here's what I've seen, the ratings are purely subjective:

July 06

Vogue (U.S) & Elle (U.S) - Nothing of interest.
W (U.S) - A pre fall fashion feature with a few furs and some quite nice images over 5 or 6 pages. (3/10)

Vogue (Italy) - A sensational Cavalli foldout cover (see above) on the reverse of which is a wonderful Blumarine series of ads, also good ads from prada, carlo tivioli (mink, v. nice as usual), excellent Anna Molinari (red fox and dyed fox). A smattering of editiorial - a nice Elle Macphearson shot in a short leopard cape, plus you get the most complete runway guide of any vogue featuring small shots but an excellent overview of the season. (5.5/10)

August 06

W & Elle (US) - Nothing of interest.

Vogue (UK) - OK Gucci ad on backcover but runway coverage a disappointment. (1/10)
Vogue (US) - A nice two page shot of Linda in the Victor & Rolf Coat..

...already featured in
August Numero at Her Famed Good Looks , and the
Christy Turlington shot is already out there too. OK, but will improve. (3/10)

Vogue (French) - The best I've seen so far. Nice feature, Lecon De Mode, photographed by Testino and featuring Liya Kebade among many others in an array of fur attire - coats, trim, skirts etc. Brilliant fur ads too from Diego M, Milady, Mazzi & jitrois. Superb photography as always, additional runway book is ok, but not as complete as the July Italian version above. (6/10)

Clarks Ad, Vogue UK, Oct 1975

The UK Vogue Oct 75 issue is very collectible not least for a 10 page Marie Helvin fur editorial where she wears silver fox, red fox & sable but also some great ads including a 12 page Grosvenor Furs (for Harrods) promotion inc. foxes & lynx but also this great double page from Clarks (!), the shoe manufacturer..

This issue crops up on ebay a little bit and is well worth purchasing. Around 30 pages of furs in total, really good.....

As the August fashion issues hit the newstands it is always an exciting time, full of expectation for the upcoming fur features.. and August is never too early, as these scans prove from two years ago.

I posted the cover too featuring Scarlett Johansson in a wicked pose, and the whip is certainly interesting... Also, Scarlett modelled the Vuitton fitch coat (pic 4) in the fall add campagin from that year. The sable coat (pic 1 ) is by Nini Ricci and also features in a great ad from that year.

Red Snow Scans

I'm certainly not into [re]posting the works of others, but these scans were so special, I felt it merited doing so on this occassion.

Super Kudos to the scanner - Red Snow - and to manu who posted the link ages ago at the furfashionguide forums. I'd missed it first time around and once I'd stumbled across it again, I made sure to be patient and get the pics from a very slow asian server. I suspect many others will have given up but, boy, these pics are worth the wait.

The Sable collared, knitted mink is just awesome (pic 2), and the scans themselves equally impressive.
